

When burned, a bundle of sage can be used for the purpose of cleansing houses of negativity. Sage, among other herbs such as cedar and juniper, is one of the most popular items sold. However, on a hot day, the scent of sage seems to hang in the air, cloaking The Dragon and The Rose in its protective embrace. “We have to keep a low profile,” says Velasquez which explains the store’s location, “there have been other stores that have been picketed to the point that they had to shut down.” “We are here to be of service to the Pagan community,” says Velasquez of the mission statement put forth by the store’s practicing Pagan owners, Hugh Robbins and Karen Estremo, “but we’re open to anyone.” However, the community is not always open to them. The Dragon and The Rose prides itself in being “the most complete Metaphysical and Wiccan/Pagan store in Orange County,” and is a safe space for those practicing Pagan faiths.
